Drennan Research & Education Lab

I did this one for the wife of a designer I worked with. She does somewhat more simple designs than him, but I do like building them. It’s practically relaxing. The part that wasn’t relaxing was working with MIT’s web servers. OMG. It kinda turned me off of working with higher education websites in the future, just because now I’m afraid I’ll have to use shell programs to install a MySQL database again or something. Shudder. I’m probably not even remembering it accurately. I might have blocked it out. Or I’m exaggerating in my head. Either way, the site build was delightful, but the site launch was not.

I was pretty excited to be a part of something like this, though. It honestly wasn’t the biggest project I’ve ever worked on – very simple design, very simple build, and a very undemanding client in general – but I did feel like being MIT-adjacent was cool.

Incredibly, it looks as though these guys are still using my site, albeit a really stripped down version. I assume they removed some of the non-web-accessible elements, like the slideshow, rather than rebuilding it in a way that would be ADA compliant.

Description

A site I built for the wife of a designer coworker. This is a lab at MIT. I learned a lot about using shell access to get into a MySQL database, which I prefer to never ever do again.
